I think this is all the more reason why they'll go with an Allendale, it's not as high of a performace chip but it does exceed the performace of the Meroms. It's a desktop chip, designed for lower end desktops, not a mobile chip without as much power.
Why wouldn't they just use Conroe? It's not like the chips are expensive, they have the same thermal output and a bigger L2 cache. I'm expecting a 2.4Ghz 17' and a 2.66Ghz 20'. Which would work out cheaper than using 2.16Ghz and 2.33Ghz Meroms.

I'm suprised no-one has suggested this yet, but picture this:
1. Creative rebrand their existing headphones etc. "Made for iPod" and start creating new iPod accessories.
2. "In order to make fuller use of those iPod accessories", Creative licenses the iPod connector port in exchange for AAC and iTMS support�
It could have been apple's plan to stay solo until Microsoft became involved, and then license fairplay

I appreciate the thoughts of people who think removing this app will help in the fight against Drunk Driving or Under the Influence. If I thought it would help solve the problem I would get behind it also. But Its not the next best thing since sliced bread. And in reality this is really more for those of us not intoxicated just minding our own business trying to get home without being treated like John Dillinger.
I hope Apple does not cave to the concerns of lawmakers who if they ever got stopped at one of these "checkpoints" would have the officers begging not to lose their jobs for the mistake.

Yeah cause a contract breach takes just as long to prove a IP suite. They'd get slapped so fast they wont know what hit them, not to mention other companies would see it as samsung being cowboys for mixing their two business up.

I think this thread has moved too far into the law and needs to move back into the 'common sense' arena. Rogue was using images supplied to him by MAC OSX. Strangely enough, Apple denied the app. Whatever, that's fine. BUT IT TOOK THREE AND A HALF MONTHS TO SORT THE SITUATION OUT!!!!
That's the problem. It takes forever to straighten out crap with them. This is why the Facebook developer is done with Apple. He would see a bug in his app, and it would take Apple two weeks or more to approve the bug fix while everybody is experiencing the bug problems. It's completely asinine. Apple clearly had no idea how popular the App Store was going to be and still doesn't have the proper resources to handle it. Sure, the App Store has over 100,000 apps. How many of those are quality apps? Hard to tell, but I can tell you it's filled with a bunch of worthless apps that shouldn't be on there in the first place.
With the recent news around the App Store, I'm afraid you're going to start seeing a lot less quality apps and far more stupid worthless apps hit since all the good developers are leaving. It just blows my mind that Apple is having this kind of mentality while Android is starting to pick up steam. I guess I'll just have to see where this situation stands when my contract runs up. Hopefully Apple pulls their head our of their rear by then.

What's your point? Are you trying to phrase it in a way that sounds like the two are somehow the same? Apple was awarded the trademark to "app store" and other companies want to use it - whether that trademark holds up we'll have to see.

What i find odd is that it appears to allow 1 or 2GB in either slot, but no more than 3GB in total. That is obviously the maximum the board can take, but it would have made a little more sense to allow 2GB in each.
I wholeheartedly agree. I'm at a point (thanks to apps like Parallels) where I am ready to replace both my PC and my G5 PowerMac with a single system. I can't really justify the cost of the MacPro (even the low-end is over $2K) but if I'm to be running both Mac and Windows simultaneously, 4GB RAM capacity in the iMac would be very much appreciated. 3GB would do, but the cost difference between the 2GB and 3GB option right now is extremely high ($575 more to go from 2GB to 3GB, not $575 total for 3GB) which puts the 17" iMac right in the price range of the low-end MacPro.
Did anyone else also notice the verbage in the "how much RAM do I need" section on the iMac store page that says you can choose a "one SO-DIMM" option to keep 2 slots free? Why do I not see this as an option? There's 2x512MB, 2x1GB and 1x2GB+1x1GB.

Getting rid of the optical drive would be stupid. No way to burn CDs (yes, I buy CDs because I like supporting artists and I like higher quality music) and no way to watch DVDs (no DVD player or TV here in my dorm room).

Finally, you can watch MOVIES through iTunes or Amazon or Netflix, or if you really want to play plastic discs, an inexpensive external DVD burner would let you listen to CD's, rip CD's, burn CD's, watch DVD's, rip DVD's and burn DVD's. If you do all these things in your dorm room, you'll alway have your external. Things that you don't need >50% of the time shouldn't be built into the computer, in MY opinion. It irks me to carry my heavy ass Dell work computer and see serial ports and parallel ports and useless stuff on the back, making it bulky and heavy.

They'll change the key and force a firmware update on any airport express user who wants to update itunes.

They (Apple) can obfuscate where that key is, but in the end it has to be accessible in some manner. It's the same thing with iTunes DRM. If someone cares enough, they can almost certainly retrieve the private key (which is how Requiem works).

If Blu-Ray was going to happen it would've been in the refresh of 2011 MBP's. I can't imagine the optical drive being around much longer in anything other than the Mac Pro.

Personally I'd rather pay a lot more for my Macs, have them updated a lot less often and even suffer decreases in the rate of performance improvements, if it meant that the people who manufactured the computers were paid enough to sustain themselves and their families in comfortable, suitable housing with enough money left over for an enjoyable life.

This isn't necessarily leveled squarely at Machhead III, and this is more suggestion than anything, but I cannot stress this enough--if you have any issues with the way the items you purchase, consume, use, etc. are produced, do not buy those items. If you know that your mac, your car, your TV, your food, or anything else you purchase are brought to you on the backs of cheap or illegal labor, refrain from buying those products. Protest with your dollars.
After you've excersised your consumer right to not buy those goods, then do what you feel is right to bring awareness to those who continue to buy those products. Write your politician. Picket the corporations who uses cheap and/or illegal labor, start an awareness website and campaign, do whatever you feel you need to do in order to make others aware of the atrocities being done to the less fortunates so that the rest of world can have those nice products at a cheap price. Remeber, it starts with one person.
Keep in mind that this is just my opinion being stated without anger or irritation, but what you shouldn't do is buy those products anyway, then proselytize to the rest of us how evil the rest of the world is for using a cheap Chinese, Latin American, Indian, whatever, workforce. Then additionally implicate those who buy those products into the same evil sphere as those who produce the goods in the first place.
Sure, this makes you out to be a major hypocrite of the worst kind (consumer hypocrites are some of the most detestable out there), but that's not really the central downside to conducting yourself in such a manner. I mean, we're all hypocrites, whether we want to admit it or not.

They must be counting the old Windows Mobile 6.x devices too - a very shaky thing to count as definite wins for WP7 in the future. A lot of those old WP6 devices are corporate, and we all know that corporate phones are moving towards the iPhone or BlackBerry.

Hey guys, just hope some stuff comes out on the 5th, like new MBP with some C2D, i guess that should show up... and doesn't need any kind of keynote show.... and maybe the mini ... to with some improved specs ... as far fot the MB, that is what I'm waiting for ... shouldn't show up at least by the end of the month !!! So, with TB moving across the whole line, how long before we can buy a (Data | Display) splitter for TB so that people using the new systems can use external displays and the data connection at the same time without the PITA of daily chaining? Hope before I buy a new system :/
